A Prayer for Syria
A Prayer for Syria
20″ x 30″ | Oil on gallery wrapped canvas | CAD $680.00
A Prayer for Syria was inspired by my dear friends who were caught up in the Syrian civil war. A daughter who wished to move forward in her life, and a mother in despair over her family and home. Their lives had been torn apart by the political upheaval.
“Have a Red/Blue Day” is an ancient greeting from the plains people. It means to have a sacred day. The blessing came from the understanding that all life is sacred. Blue is the colour of sea and sky, and represents spirit. Red symbolizes body, blood and earth. My intent was not to create a red/blue painting. However, as I worked, I realized I was painting a blessing for all Indigenous Peoples who are forced out of their homes and off their land.
A prayer for the souls those caught in the turmoil of the wars of money, power and man. A prayer for Syria.
