Settlers and Refugees
Acrylic 16″ x 20″ | Acrylic on canvas | SOLD
My grandmother’s family were persecuted German (Austrian she would say NOT German) Russians living in the Ukraine. They fled Siberia before the revolution. She sailed to Brazil, journeyed through the USA and eventually settled in Strathcona, Alberta in the early 1900’s.
When my father passed I found myself needing the old stories. There is some healing in the discovery of my family in the many ways I never knew them.
This painting was one of a few I did from (really old and damaged) family photographs.
Time Out (Literally). Two of my grand babies on the ‘time out stair’.This moment invoked the image of a global time out days after this picture was taken.
